Why You Might Not Be Able to Help Your Child with Their Math Homework-

Math concepts and ideas are constantly changing. Yes, some of the cores remain the same. Multiplication and Division are fairly straight forward. Addition and Subtraction we all have down in the first grade. At some point though your child’s academics may surpass what you remember for school. Add on to that the fact that advanced math concepts are constantly changing and you may be at a loss when you see your child’s work. The kicker is that even if you understand it quite well you may not be able to help because the way the kids are supposed to solve the problem. It is not just about getting the right answer but about how you get the right answer and the ways to solving the problem are varied sometimes. If the teacher wants the child to learn it a specific way allow the child to do so. It may make you crazy because you know that your way is easier or makes more sense, but you do not want your student to be out in the cold when the class is going over problems together. So as hard as it is bite your tongue and maybe you will even learn something new.

Math may seem unnecessary to you or your child. People often think “well I am not going to be an accountant so why do I need to learn this?” Math though is used in more industries than most people realize. Math is used in landscaping to measure and plot landscape beds. Math is used in cooking to determine measurements and the optimal amount of yeast to grow bread.
